  18. UK regional trade in goods statistics: Quarter 3 2022

Latest UK regional trade in goods statistics HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has released the UK's regional trade in goods statistics (RTS) for Quarter 3 2022. From January 2022, HMRC implemented a change in data collection methods affecting trade in goods data on imports from the EU into Great Britain. This creates a break in the time series, users should take care when making comparisons with quarters and years prior to 2022. A new method for EU business counts was introduced in the 2022 Quarter 1 (Q1) publication, resulted in a break in series from previous RTS EU business counts. EU and total business counts from the 2021 data period onwards will therefore not be comparable with RTS business counts published prior to 2021. More information on recent data source changes and its impacts on RTS can be found in the main commentary document. Please also note that on 14 November 2022, HMRC announced corrections to the Overseas Trade in Goods Statistics (OTS). These corrections were applied to OTS on 12 December 2022 and will be applied to RTS in the 2022 Q4 data release, scheduled for 16 March 2023. You can also download a full commentary, access supporting data sets and the updated RTS Methodology document. For more details, go to UK regional trade in goods statistics: third quarter 2022.

  21. Changes to the Overseas Trade Statistics bulk dataset files

On 11 March 2022, the way HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) publishes the Overseas Trade Statistics (OTS) bulk dataset files will be changing. To ensure published trade data is relevant and easily accessible, as well as considering feedback from our recent consultation, the current OTS bulk datasets will be replaced by a single data file for each flow (Imports and Exports). The information included in each new single data will be changing, and a full technical specification document is available to support understanding of how to interpret these new data files. Download an example of the new data files using December 2020 trade data. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please contact us.

Imports (BDSImpYYMM) Data for goods imported to the UK. Importer details Names and addresses of UK importers trading with non-EU countries. Exporter details Names and addresses of UK exporters trading with non-EU countries. Import data by preference 2022 onwards Data for goods imported to the UK broken down by eligibility and by import trade regime. Imports by Preference data 2021 The 2021 preference data published in this archive represents Overseas Trade Statistics by: preferential use eligibility. While the methodology for 2021 data is the same as for the Imports by Preference data series, the trade data used is different. This is due to the operation of Staged Customs Controls during 2021. As a result 2021 data is missing any trade value that was not collected on a customs declaration. So this data is not comparable with the Imports by Preference data series. Revisions to datasets These datasets are subject to full replacement for each release, including new revisions made since the last release. You will need to take this into account when using this data.  You can find details of these corrections in trade statistics methodology.
