Each year, government departments are required to publish the costs to business of complying with statistical surveys. The only statistical surveys conducted by HMRC are Intrastat and the Ancillary Costs Survey, the Trade Statistics Unit is responsible for both. Intrastat accounts for 99.9% of the total cost to business.
- In 2017-18, the cost was £6.7 million. This was a 6.5% increase on the previous year.
- This was attributed to an increase in response rates (4.7%), and an increase in the calculated hourly wage rate for completing the surveys (1.8%).
