Changes to country and commodity codes in 2022

A reminder that the reporting of Country of Origin is now required on Intrastat Dispatches declarations

Intrastat dispatches country codes XI and XU

As referred in the previous news article, from January 2022 Month of account, the reporting of Country of Origin is now required on Intrastat Dispatches declarations.

To distinguish goods originating from Northern Ireland and Great Britain two separate codes have been created:

  • XI for goods originating from Northern Ireland
  • XU for goods originating from Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales, including Channel Islands and Isle of Man)

NOTE: The country code GB is invalid for Country of Origin. Please do not incorrectly use country code 'NI' for goods moving from Northern Ireland, as this relates to Nicaragua.

Invalid ‘EU’ country code for import customs declarations

The country code ‘EU’ is not valid as the Country of Dispatch or Country of Origin on import customs declarations.

The country code relating to the individual member state should be used instead. For example, if goods are dispatched from Germany to Great Britain, the Country of Dispatch should be marked as ‘DE’ and not ‘EU’.

Commodity Codes for 2022

Information on the commodity codes that apply from 1 January 2022, incorporating the Harmonised System from the World Customs Organisation (WCO) is now available on uktradeinfo.
