Asymmetries in international trade in goods statistics

This section is News

This release is an asymmetry study covering trade in goods between the UK and its EU and non-EU partners for the calendar years 2019 to 2021.

UK measured against EU and non-EU partner countries, 2019 to 2021

Asymmetries are the differences between the published trade statistics of the reporting country and its partner countries. Due to each country collecting data on their own international trade-in-goods for both imports and exports, in theory the ‘mirror flow’ collected by the partner countries should match. In reality, it is often the case that the figures do not match and this is referred to as an ‘asymmetry’.

Users of this publication can find detailed information on asymmetries between the UK and its EU and non-EU partner countries, 2019 to 2021 published on GOV.UK.
