Summary of trade trends
In September 2022:
- total goods exports were £42.1bn:
- up by £4.0bn (10%) compared with August 2022
- up by £13.2bn (46%) compared with September 2021
- total goods imports were £54.6bn:
- down by £0.3bn (0.5%) compared with August 2022
- up by £9.3bn (20%) compared with September 2021
- the UK was a net importer, with imports exceeding exports by £12.5bn, narrowing by £4.2bn on August 2022
EU and non-EU trade in goods
EU trade in goods
In September 2022:
- EU exports were £17.5bn:
- up by £0.9bn (5.6%) compared with August 2022
- up by £3.9bn (28%) compared with September 2021
- EU imports were £24.5bn:
- down by £0.5bn (1.9%) compared with August 2022
- up by £4.0bn (20%) compared with September 2021
- for EU trade, the UK was a net importer, with imports exceeding exports by £7.0bn
Non-EU trade in goods
In September 2022:
- Non-EU exports were £24.6bn:
- up by £3.0bn (14%) compared with August 2022
- up by £9.4bn (62%) compared with September 2021
- Non-EU imports were £30.1bn:
- up by £0.2bn (0.7%) compared with August 2022
- up by £5.2bn (21%) compared with September 2021
- for non-EU trade, the UK was a net importer, with imports exceeding exports by £5.5bn
