Summary of trade trends
In April 2026, total goods exports were £36.4 billion:
- up by £0.7 billion or 1.9% compared with March 2026
- up by £1.5 billion or 4.3% compared with April 2025
In April 2026, total goods imports were £63.6 billion:
- down by £11.6 billion or 15% compared with March 2026
- up by £5.2 billion or 8.9% compared with April 2025
The UK was a net importer in April 2026, with imports exceeding exports by £27.2 billion. This decreased the magnitude of the trade gap by £12.3 billion on March 2026.
EU and non-EU trade in goods
EU trade in goods
In April 2026, EU exports were £16.9 billion:
- down by £0.1 billion or 0.5% compared with March 2026
- up by £2.5 billion or 17% compared with April 2025
In April 2026, EU imports were £29.5 billion:
- down by £2.0 billion or 6.2% compared with March 2026
- up by £2.4 billion or 9.0% compared with April 2025
For EU trade, the UK was a net importer in April 2026, with imports exceeding exports by £12.5 billion.
Non-EU trade in goods
In April 2026, non-EU exports were £19.5 billion:
- up by £0.8 billion or 4.1% compared with March 2026
- down by £0.9 billion or 4.6% compared with April 2025
In April 2026, non-EU imports were £34.1 billion:
- down by £9.7 billion or 22% compared with March 2026
- up by £2.8 billion or 8.8% compared with April 2025
For non-EU trade, the UK was a net importer in April 2026, with imports exceeding exports by £14.6 billion.
