Summary of trade trends
In March 2025:
total goods exports were £38.9 billion:
- down by £1.5 billion or 3.8% compared with February 2025
- up £4.7 billion or 14% compared with March 2024
total goods imports were £60.1 billion:
- up by £4.7 billion or 8.5% compared with February 2025
- up by £9.3 billion or 18% compared with March 2024
the UK was a net importer, with imports exceeding exports by £21.2 billion, increasing the trade gap by £6.3 billion on February 2025
EU and non-EU trade in goods
EU trade in goods
In March 2025:
EU exports were £15.3 billion:
- up by £1.1 billion or 7.9% compared with February 2025
- down by £0.1 billion or 0.3% compared with March 2024
EU imports were £29.2 billion:
- up by £3.4 billion or 13% compared with February 2025
- up by £2.4 billion or 9.0% compared with March 2024
for EU trade, the UK was a net importer, with imports exceeding exports by £13.9 billion
Non-EU trade in goods
In March 2025:
Non-EU exports were £23.6 billion:
- down by £2.7 billion or 10% compared with February 2025
- up by £4.8 billion or 25% compared with March 2024
Non-EU imports were £30.9 billion:
- up by £1.3 billion or 4.4% compared with February 2025
- up by £6.9 billion or 29% compared with March 2024
for non-EU trade, the UK was a net importer, with imports exceeding exports by £7.3 billion
