Summary of trade trends
In April 2025:
total goods exports were £32.7 billion:
- down by £6.2 billion or 16% compared with March 2025
- up by £0.2 billion or 0.7% compared with April 2024
total goods imports were £57.5 billion:
- down by £2.6 billion or 4.3% compared with March 2025
- up by £4.3 billion or 8.0% compared with April 2024
the UK was a net importer, with imports exceeding exports by £24.8 billion, increasing the trade gap by £3.6 billion on March 2025
EU and non-EU trade in goods
EU trade in goods
In April 2025:
EU exports were £13.4 billion:
- down by £1.9 billion or 13% compared with March 2025
- down by £1.4 billion or 9.2% compared with April 2024
EU imports were £26.6 billion:
- down by £2.5 billion or 8.7% compared with March 2025
- down by £1.5 billion or 5.3% compared with April 2024
for EU trade, the UK was a net importer, with imports exceeding exports by £13.2 billion
Non-EU trade in goods
In April 2025:
Non-EU exports were £19.3 billion:
- down by £4.3 billion or 18% compared with March 2025
- up by £1.6 billion or 9.1% compared with April 2024
Non-EU imports were £30.9 billion:
- down by £0.1 billion or 0.2% compared with March 2025
- up by £5.7 billion or 23% compared with April 2024
for non-EU trade, the UK was a net importer, with imports exceeding exports by £11.6 billion
