This website is managed by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) Trade Statistics unit, and operates alongside the main HMRC and GOV.UK websites for the purpose of publishing and hosting UK trade statistics data.
In summary we:
- collect, compile, quality assure and publish trade statistics on goods physically leaving and entering the UK for trade purposes;
- ensure the UK complies with EU legislation regarding the quality and timeliness of its trade statistics;
- ensure the trade statistics are collected and published in accordance with the UK National Statistics Code of Practice for Official Statistics;
These trade statistics are collected from the EU-wide Intrastat survey and from Customs import and export entries, both administered by HMRC.
The data we publish are used by a wide range of national and international customers from the government, financial, business, and academic sectors, as well as members of the general public.
Data is also provided to the Office of National Statistics (ONS) as a component of the UK Balance of Payments, and to the European Union Statistical Office (Eurostat) for their European trade publication. In addition we represent the UK within EU, United Nations and Office for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) forums addressing trade statistics issues
