HMRC applied unscheduled corrections to the Overseas Trade in Goods Statistics (OTS) alongside the June 2019 release published on 9 August.

These have now been applied to the Regional Trade in Goods Statistics (RTS) alongside the Quarter 2 2019 release that is being published today.

HMRC applied unscheduled corrections to the Overseas Trade in Goods Statistics (OTS) alongside the June 2019 release published on 9 August.

These will now be applied to the Regional Trade in Goods Statistics (RTS) alongside the Quarter 2 2019 release that is being published on Thursday 5 September.

Following quality assurance and checking procedures, Trade Statistics has identified a number of areas where businesses had omitted trade from their original declarations or declared trade in an incorrect classification code.

Given the scale of the changes, HMRC has corrected the non-EU trade figures for:

  • 5 commodity codes for 2011 – 5 codes for imports
  • 6 commodity codes for 2012 – 5 codes for imports, 1 code for exports
  • 4 commodity codes for 2013 – 2 codes for imports, 2 codes for exports
  • 5 commodity codes for 2014 – 2 codes for imports, 3 codes for exports
  • 5 commodity codes for 2015 – 3 code for imports, 2 codes for exports
  • 10 commodity codes for 2016 – 2 codes for imports, 8 codes for exports

And the EU trade figures for:

  • 1 commodity code for 2011 – 1 code for EU imports
  • 2 commodity codes for 2012 – 1 code for EU imports, 1 code for EU exports
  • 6 commodity codes for 2013 – 5 codes for EU imports, 1 code for EU exports
  • 14 commodity codes for 2014 – 13 codes for EU imports, 1 code for EU exports
  • 8 commodity codes for 2015 – 5 codes for EU imports, 3 codes for EU exports
  • 12 commodity codes for 2016 – 11 codes for EU imports, 1 code for EU exports
  • 46 commodity codes for 2017 – 18 codes for EU imports, 28 codes for EU exports

These corrections have been released today in conjunction with the June 2019 Overseas Trade in Goods Statistics. They are explained in the following documents:

These corrections are included in the interactive tables. Corrections to the Regional Trade in Goods Statistics (2013 to 2017) and UK Trade in Goods by Business Characteristics (2013 to 2017) will be made within future releases respectively.

  • 1 commodity code for 2011 – 1 code for EU imports
  • 2 commodity codes for 2012 – 1 code for EU imports, 1 code for EU exports
  • 6 commodity codes for 2013 – 5 codes for EU imports, 1 code for EU exports
  • 14 commodity codes for 2014 – 13 codes for EU imports, 1 code for EU exports
  • 8 commodity codes for 2015 – 5 codes for EU imports, 3 codes for EU exports
  • 12 commodity codes for 2016 – 11 codes for EU imports, 1 code for EU exports

These corrections will be released on 9 August 2019 in conjunction with the June 2019 Overseas Trade Statistics and will cover the period from 2011 to 2017. Amendments to 2018 onwards will be covered by ongoing scheduled revisions process.

Corrections to the Regional Trade in Goods Statistics (2013 to 2017) and UK Trade in Goods by Business Characteristics (2013 to 2017) will be made alongside future releases at a later date.
